# Tables with Genie

> Ask Genie to create, read and change tables for you

[Genie](/platform/genie/overview) can work with your workspace's tables directly from chat.

## What Genie can do

* **List tables** in the workspace, including platform tables.
* **Read a table's schema**: its columns, types and identifier.
* **Create tables** with the columns you describe, or from a CSV file you attach.
* **Import a CSV file** into an existing table.
* **Rename a table** or change its description. The identifier never changes.
* **Add, edit and delete columns.** Editing a column changes its name or type, following the same rules as the column dialog.
* **Read and search rows**, up to 200 at a time, from your tables or platform tables.
* **Run read-only SQL** across the workspace's tables.
* **Insert, update, duplicate and delete rows.** Updates, duplicates and deletes target rows by their `id`.
* **Run an `INSERT` or `UPDATE` statement** for changes that need SQL. Deletes go through row deletion by `id`.
* **Clear every row** from a table, keeping its columns, or **delete the table**.
* **Export a table** as a CSV file: every row, the rows matching a search or filter, or the result of a query.

## Approvals

Every change to a table or its data asks for your approval before it runs, so you stay in control of what Genie writes. Genie shows an approval card with what it is about to do, such as **Update 3 rows**, and waits for you to approve it.

**Asks for approval**

* Creating, renaming, clearing or deleting a table, or changing its description
* Importing a CSV file
* Adding, editing and deleting columns
* Inserting, updating, duplicating and deleting rows
* Running an `INSERT` or `UPDATE` statement

**Runs straight away**

* Listing tables and reading schemas
* Reading rows and running read-only SQL
* Exporting a table as CSV

## Example requests

* "Create a table called Leads with name, email, company and a signed-up date."
* "Add a Boolean column called `contacted` to the leads table."
* "Which flows failed most often this week?"
* "Show me the 10 most recent rows in orders."
* "Mark every order from acme.com as shipped."
* "Delete the test rows I added to customers today."
